Questions

Common questions about Startup Advisory

Which registrations do we need on day one?

It depends on your state, your type of business and how many people you employ. In Maharashtra, most businesses start with the Shops and Establishments registration or intimation and Professional Tax enrolment, then add PTRC once salaries are liable to PT. PF, ESI and others follow as headcount grows. We give you the exact list.

We have only a few employees. Do labour laws apply to us?

Some do from the first employee. The Code on Wages, for example, covers minimum wages and timely payment for all employees. Others start at set headcounts. We map what applies now and what comes next.

Can we register for PF before it becomes compulsory?

Yes. With the agreement of the majority of your employees, PF can be applied to your establishment voluntarily. It can help attract talent, but it is a long-term commitment, so we weigh it with you first.

Do we have to pay bonus in our first years?

In the first five accounting years after the year in which you start selling goods or services, bonus is payable only for a year in which the establishment makes a profit. We help you keep track of it.

Is staying compliant expensive for a startup?

It does not have to be. Getting the basics right at the start costs far less than clearing past dues, interest and penalties later. We keep the setup practical and sized to your stage.
