Questions
Common questions about ESI
Which employees does ESI cover?
Employees whose wages are within the limit notified for ESI, in establishments the Code covers. Since 21 November 2025, wages are measured on the Labour Codes definition, which can change who falls within the limit. We check each employee against the current figure.
An employee was injured at work. What should we do?
Report the accident to ESIC without delay and keep the employee's attendance and wage records ready. We file the accident report, help with the documents and follow the claim through.
We already give health insurance. Do we still need ESI?
Yes, if your establishment and the employee are covered. A private health policy does not replace ESI contributions. We can tell you exactly who falls under ESI and who does not.
We registered late. Can ESI dues be backdated?
Yes. ESIC can demand contributions from the date coverage applied, with interest and damages. We work out your exposure, help you regularise it and draft replies to any assessment.
What about employees who are not covered by ESI?
You remain liable for workplace injuries to them under the Code's employee's compensation chapter. Many employers take an employee's compensation policy for these staff. We advise on the right cover.
